Well, this sure was fun fun fun. Janelle and Valerie had the perfect mix of romance + good times, friends + family. We had a gorgeous day down in Rochester’s High Falls district with the wedding and reception at La Luna.
The wedding day went swimmingly and we all enjoyed the awesome view looking over the falls and gorge. I loved the way that the ceremony was laid out, with both fathers giving away their daughters, the wonderful readings and all the emotion. I loved that Valerie wore white flip flops and Janelle wore grey Adidas! So great.
Both ladies have amazingly friendly and open families, who were on time and paid attention during the family formals! Gasp! So refreshing! Janelle’s Grandparents really added a special touch to the day, both with their playful humor and their obvious love for Janelle.
Also notable was all of the booze. I guess a family that plays together, stays together, right? I mean, Janelle’s family was all enjoying a beverage in the bar at the Hyatt Regency before the ceremony (what a great / authentic family photo that was!). Not to mention that both sets of parents were trying to buy me drinks the night of the rehearsal. I’m pretty sure I was annexed into the family before I even took a photo. I felt a little like a rock star and so had to try to be invisible on the wedding day.
We were blessed with amazing lighting and timing of the day. Valerie and Janelle really planned a perfect wedding. We even snuck out to the top of the parking garage to watch the fireworks going off at Frontier Field!
It was really wonderful to work with clients that gave me carte blanche to do whatever I needed to do to get a great shot. This also really helped me realize that they were OK with breaking the mold of what we are ‘supposed’ to do and spend more energy on getting really great images. It worked, and naturally, which is best.
