It’s natural that you’ll want your proposal to be perfect. After all, it is meant to be one of the most romantic times of your life, and you’ll want to show your partner just how much they mean to you by purposefully planning a special day.
Part of this is choosing a beautiful spot to pop the question. Especially if you’re going to have a proposal photoshoot in the same spot, or even a surprise photographer to capture the special moment, it’s important to choose a location that highlights both your happy smiles and that all-important engagement ring.
Whilst there are many stunning places to choose from. Here are some more unusual choices to give you some inspiration for your destination proposal.

Aspen, Colorado Destination Proposal
Aspen is full of natural beauty, especially in winter, and the town is famous for having snowfall for usually around half of the year.
The snow-capped mountains surrounding the town are part of the Rocky Mountain range, and whilst it’s most famous for the excellent skiing, the summer brings opportunities for climbing and hiking.
As such, it remains one of the top romantic destinations. Head up the mountains by foot, ski, or cable car, and pop the question whilst looking back across the magical, glittering landscape. Afterward, warm up with a cup of hot chocolate in front of the fire, or share a candlelit dinner in one of the many excellent restaurants.
Or, if you’re visiting in the summer or autumn, head out to one of Aspen’s film or music festivals to celebrate.
Belvedere Castle, New York Proposal Spot
Traditionally, the Empire State Building steals the show as one of the most popular proposal spots in New York. But for those who want somewhere more fairytale-esque, head to Belvedere Castle in Central Park. The folly (miniature castle) was built in 1872 and is perched on the edge of Vista Rock, providing the perfect dramatic location for your proposal, with its stone towers, Turtle Pond, and lawns.
If your partner loves fantasy and fairytales, there couldn’t be a more perfect spot. For those who are happy with a more public proposal, it is easy to get to the terraces, so you can pop the question against the extremely photogenic background.
If you’re looking for a more private spot, go during off-peak times and look up at the castle from the lawns.

Grand Prismatic Spring, Wyoming Wedding Proposal
If pure photographic impact is important for you, then head to the Grand Prismatic Spring. The impressive thermal springs are set in bands of orange, yellow, and green rock, and the spring water itself is deep blue, making the whole place look like a painting. The water itself is 121 feet deep and 370 feet in diameter, and the heat rising from the springs also adds to the magical atmosphere.
To really make the experience special, why not theme your bespoke engagement ring around this spot?
Take inspiration from the colors of the rock and opt for gemstones, and perhaps choose a trilogy setting to allow you to pair up several different colors of stones.
