As if I didn’t have enough happening in the middle of photographing/editing weddings, re-branding my business and hosting the big Anniversary/Birthday party, I committed to TWO art shows! Solo art shows! Um, yeah, I’m crazy.
Here are the details so you can stalk me or avoid me… whatever…
* As part of Rochester’s First Friday art openings in August, “Distilling the Flipside” an art show as a fundraiser for the Roc City Skatepark project using alternative processes of photography. Not just skate/bike/blade/coffee related art, but a mixture of all things that inspire me. The work will be on display at Joe Bean Coffee Roasters during August, with the opening on Friday, August 3rd from 6-9 pm. We have also been collaborating on a special RCP blend of coffee and will launch/serve it at the opening. Yum! Sales of coffee and art benefit the skatepark.
* Gallery Salon, one of my major sponsors for my big party, has opened their walls to me during August as well! The work will be a little different, with a little overlap between the two shows… utilizing old methods of photography and also showcasing some pieces from my new venture: Kamay Vintage Rentals!
So, obviously, I’m in a big flurry to create enough content for these two art shows, while being sure to not use much that I would use for my business. IT HAS BEEN A BLAST! Seriously, to get my hands dirty again and to scrounge for found objects and create odd ball frames…. This is exactly why I joined The Yards! I guess the Universe approves. Ask and ye shall receive??
Here are some process shots from my phone:
I feel like I’ve come full circle, since my degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology is in Fine Art Photography and I tried SO hard to be an ‘artist’ when I graduated and lived in Austin. Now, here I am, many years later and without even trying, I have two art shows in the same month! Three if you can count my 10th Anniversary party. Wow, I’m blessed (unless no one shows up to any of them, then I’m sad).
So, in closing, this is also my Birthday week and I’m massively over-committed. SO, if any of you are tempted to buy me a birthday card/drink/gift… DON’T. Instead, please offer to help little ole me get all this stuff hung up and organized and happening. I’m literally hanging these two shows ON my birthday, then spending the week after getting ready for the big bash.
