My 40th Birthday Party on Honeoye Lake

General Living Vacation

lakeside birthday party for Heather McKay

With a super busy summer wedding season, I took a much needed day off before the craziest 3 weeks of my job to celebrate my 40th birthday! My little sister, Grace, was visiting from Austin with my nephew  and that made the party perfect. It was so wonderful to ring in a new decade surrounded by awesome past clients and close friends. Those lines blur so much and that makes me so happy. lakeside family photos for 40th birthday party

I started the morning with a long kayak ride down into the inlet at the south end of Honeoye Lake with Tim & Tom. What a great way to wake up. We had attempted this trip before, but we wanted to get all the way to the end this time. Success.kayaking in the finger lakes

By the time we had returned, Erika and her family had arrived and everyone else trickled in throughout the day.  Erika Sorbello Schramm

Though everyone kept yelling at me to put the camera down, I really was testing out some new flash techniques on my friends and family. Ironically, they came out way better than I’ve been able to duplicate on the job. what the?? gotta keep perfecting the technique in a faster paced environment.

Anyway, even though everyone thought I should stop ‘working’, I really just wanted to get some good quality / non-iPhone photos of the people I adore. That is the best gift I can have on my birthday. It was a fun day and great to see the kids all playing well together and enjoying the lake.

Check out Tim and Tom’s pictures from my party! It was so fun to geek out with them about photography and see their unique vision from the day.
