Western NY doesn’t have many lake wedding locations that are outdoors and right on Lake Ontario, which is such a shame! Melissa and Jason found the absolute PERFECT wedding ceremony location between Buffalo and rochester at the Black North Inn in Kent, NY for their Western NY lake wedding. With the help of my super nerdy sunset tracking app (Light Trac), I was able to guide them to the best possible location overlooking Lake Ontario… right between two trees.
Melissa and Jason are so laid back and realistic that I actually had to talk them into a few things. Or at least give them a gentle nudge. Like taking their love of making pickles and using them as the wedding favors. Such a personal touch.
Jennifer, Melissa’s sister, was the other ‘wedding planner’ for this very simple, very emotional day. She found their rustic guestbook online and also made the seating chart from an old window.
From the very beginning, we all hit it off and I’m so stoked to be their documentarian.
Melissa looked absolutely radiant in a simple, wedding dress that was *gasp* not white! I LOVED the color and it matched her skin tone perfectly. More Brides really should skip the white wedding gown. After watching Melissa all day, I quickly realized why she didn’t have much of a train to her dress… that girl is always on the move!
Jason went offbeat himself by not only skipping the jacket, but also with a shirt without a pocket. Turns out, those are hard to find! {hint: Jos Bank doesn’t carry them, but Men’s Warehouse does}. As Jason will tell you, the pocket is unused and not necessary. The funny thing about that was when I attached each boutonniere to the other men’s pockets, those pockets were full of stuff.
We absolutely could not have asked for better weather… a perfect and sunny 72 degree day. Though the sun was shining, we all had our backs to the setting sun (thanks again to the Light Trac app). Someone was smart enough to bring a box of fun sun hats! Talk about smart planning!
We also were on the ball by scheduling all of the formal dances when the sunset would be at it’s peak, in order to fill the windows of the Black North Inn reception hall. Everything went just as planned
