Kellen & Danielle: Wedding at Genesee Valley Club
How is it that I sound so redundant in all of my BLOG posts?? Another super fun wedding and another amazingly nice family and another beautiful day! Really, I do have the best job in the world! Even when things get stressful, everything works out just great. Danielle and Kellen were amazingly sweet and beautiful and the wedding was the same!! I guess I could just end this post with that. Who knows if anyone reads these things anyway? Well, I’ll just go over my own personal highlights of the day.
I began at Danielle’s parent’s house in Penfield to get her ready and take family formals. The girls all looked beautiful as they returned from the Rocky Greco Salon. Mom and Dad were all smiles the entire morning and the love that flows from every pore in this family just astounds me. Danielle and the girls all looked stunning in their simple, yet gorgeous, gowns.
Next up was to visit Kellen at his parent’s house as well. All the guys were there and it was obvious from the start that they have been hanging out together at that house most of their life. What got me laughing is that Kellen’s Mom, Carol, calls everyone (including her husband) by their nicknames! She is so funny and spunky that when I was getting out of the car she was calling me from across the street… wearing her sweatpants WITH her fancy wedding shoes! Oh, the sight of that! Priceless. Kellen was as calm as can be and had just as many smiles as Danielle as he finished getting ready.
The wedding ceremony was at the Asbury First United Methodist Church on East Ave in Rochester. This historic landmark has very strict rules on professional photographers and videographers, which I disagree with. I agree that a wedding ceremony is a sacred event and photography is a privilege and not a right, however I disagree that the professional photographers are treated like a plague and the guests are allowed to do just about whatever they want. With the amazing cameras that professionals use now that we have all gone digital, there is no reason I can’t be invisible and also do my job. That being said, I got my job done in a professional and ninja fashion that only a few people were in on.
The service was actually very inspiring and the officiant gave an exceptional homily. Also noteworthy was the super up to date technical abilities of the church! Danielle’s Uncle Joe did a reading via iChat video link! So touching and amazing that we are able to do this sort of technological marvel. Jimmy Catalano from Edgerton Floral did an beautiful job with the flowers and it was great to see a florist actually adhere the boutonnieres properly.
After the ceremony, we took a few extended family formals at the church and then headed over to the Genesee Valley Club for cocktails and the reception. Short on time, I threw in a few Bridal Party images and a handful of Kellen and Danielle right before the day decided to give us a little rain. Luckily it didn’t last long because the rest of the day was absolutely beautiful for July! Perfect temperature and perfect day.
The Genesee Valley Club weddings are absolutely gorgeous and the food was amazing! The Bridal Party gave props to Michael Jackson with some creative entrances and The Orient Express Band was rocking all night long!
OK, so for some fun random things that stuck out for me… Ben & Kacey were in attendance and it was great to see them again after their wedding last month! It was also really cool to learn that one of the guests made a joke that I must be the only wedding photographer in town since he has been to 3 of my weddings this season! Hilarious since I actually don’t do a high number of weddings! Many people were at Ben & Kacey’s wedding last month, but this guest was also at the wedding I did the day after that (Stacy & Jim). I guess I’m in the right group of people!
Another thing I learned was that Ben was very very happy with my Assistant, Michael Hanlon, at his wedding. He said that during a very stressful point in the day, Mike was able to hold back and not be in the way or pushy. It was very good to know and puts him on the top of the list of Assistants in the future.
Well, the rest of the evening was a blast and I’ll just let Kellen & Danielle’s Genesee Valley Club Wedding Photos by McKay’s Photography speak for themselves!
This will be a hard wedding to edit down to a reasonable number of images, for sure! Congratulations to Kellen and Danielle! Thank you so much for hiring me and for referring me to so many people. I adore you both, your families and friends! Have fun in Greece!!
