Engagement Photo Ideas

Many of my couples aren’t interested in engagement pictures, and I totally get it. Most of my couples are shy in front of the camera and feel silly or just don’t like getting their picture taken.

I used to feel the same way.

That is until I learned how to pose myself and hide my double chin 😉 and large arms.

I’m here to tell you that if you don’t have any good pictures of yourself, especially with your betrothed, then you just haven’t been in front of the right photographer.

It is all about posing, lighting and feeling comfortable and relaxed.

Personally, I think it is a good idea to have Engagement pictures taken if you don’t have many photos of you two together. This way, not all of the photos of you two are in wedding clothes.

It is also a great way to get to know your wedding photographer and see how you communicate. A taste test, if you will.

What on Earth do we do with the Engagement Photos?

Here are just a handful of ideas for things we can do with engagement photos:

A few engagement photo ideas that are not mentioned in the video are using the engagement pictures as a way to show your relationship to your family and friends at the wedding, like the Brooklyn Engagement Session for Annie & Chris.

Their families were traveling to the wedding and not familiar with Annie & Chris’ life in graffiti-clad Brooklyn.

So for their session, we documented where they met, had their first date, their first kiss and where Chris said the magic words: “I love you.”

Another engagement session idea was what I did for Alan and Merri in Boston. Their family was also traveling to the wedding and the wedding was even being held inside a vintage Speak Easy Saloon in Davis Square.

To help the guests out, we documented the walk from the T station to the Saloon…. a treasure hunt, if you will.

All engagement sessions with McKay’s Photography are super custom experiences and 100% tell your story with places you would never even think to go for your engagement photos.

My packages all include custom-designed Save-the-date cards and a photo guestbook for your wedding reception. They are such a hit!
